Galilée School Complex in Villefontaine (38): An architectural and sustainable revival in vibrant colours

The renovation of the Galilée school complex had a clear objective: to make the building more energy-efficient whilst giving it a modern and dynamic design that meets the expectations of a 21st-century school. It was in this context that Fundermax panels played a crucial role, meeting the technical, aesthetic and environmental requirements of this renovation.

Over time, the building had lost some of its appeal, which is essential for promoting pupils’ well-being. It was completely redesigned, with materials chosen to ensure optimal sustainability. The bio-based nature, robustness and adaptability of Max Compact Exterior to demanding climatic conditions were decisive factors. Thanks to these improvements, the building’s energy rating has improved from class F to class C and its greenhouse gas emissions from class D to class B – a significant benefit for both the environment and the building’s users.

The architect selected a palette of vibrant colours from the Max Compact Exterior Colour range, including Saffron (0736), Mars Red (0674), Lemon (0865) and Rubinus Red (3003), combined with a satin finish (NT). This selection reflects the desire to modernise the building’s appearance whilst providing a functional solution to the project: to create a dynamic and stimulating environment for the pupils. 

In perfect harmony with the energy of the site, the south-facing façades, punctuated by ‘coloured boxes’, combine aesthetics with functionality, offering natural sun protection whilst creating captivating plays of light. This ingenious design helps to create a stimulating and inspiring environment, fully supporting the pupils’ development.

The choice of Fundermax was not limited to aesthetic considerations. The Max Compact Exterior HPL panels were also selected for their exceptional performance, durability and strength. The installation of the cladding was entrusted to ANT Toiture Bardage, whose expertise ensured an efficient and meticulous installation.

The refurbishment of the Galilée school complex posed significant challenges in terms of planning and execution, due to the complex nature of the existing structure and the need to carry out the work whilst the school remained in operation. Thanks to close collaboration between all those involved in the project, solutions were achieved that were technically sound, aesthetically pleasing and sustainable.

Today, the project is regarded as a successful example of modern school refurbishment. Featuring Max Compact Exterior panels from Fundermax and other innovative measures, the building combines sustainability, comfort and contemporary architecture. Pupils, teachers and parents particularly appreciate the new design and the improved thermal comfort.
