Environment & Energy – Our Measures
We build on what nature provides us with.
Fundermax has been committed to environmental and energy management for more than 20 years, focusing on the following areas of action:
Corporate Responsibility
In all our actions, we aim to act responsibly towards resources, the environment and the concerns of our stakeholders.
Fundermax has established a systematic environmental and energy management system with experts and designated officers and is certified to:
ISO 9001:2025 Quality, ISO 14001:2015 Environment, ISO 50001:2018 Energy Efficiency and ISO 45001:2018 Occupational Health and Safety for the St. Veit/Glan site, including the Wiener Neudorf and Neudörfl/Leitha sites, by SystemCERT Zertifizierungsges.m.b.H.
Products from nature
For over 130 years, Fundermax has been working with precision and a passion for natural raw materials. We source 100 per cent of our wood and paper from certified sustainable forestry.
At Fundermax, we are committed to the cascading use of wood. In the first cascade, we use wood for material applications, producing wood-based materials and compact laminates. The second cascade involves energy recovery – only when wood can no longer be used for a product do we utilise it as fuel to generate green energy.

Energy generation and use
In St. Veit an der Glan and Neudörfl, we generate certified green energy (electricity and process heat) for our production facilities in our combined heat and power plants. At our Wiener Neudorf site, our 7,000 m² photovoltaic system supplies environmentally friendly electricity using solar power.
In addition to generating and using green energy, we also focus on heat recovery and the expansion of district heating. We currently supply around 10,000 households in St. Veit an der Glan, Neudörfl, Wiener Neustadt and Bad Sauerbrunn with district heating generated from our waste heat.
Careful production
In the production of raw chipboard and Fundermax biofibreboard, we primarily use wood fibre from forest thinning that is no longer required by the sawmill industry. The wood fibre content of the biofibreboard is as high as approximately 99 per cent.
Our Compact board consists of around 65 per cent paper as a substrate. We already meet half of our core paper requirements entirely with recycled core paper, which we source primarily from our Fundermax subsidiary Ranheim Paper & Board in Norway, a manufacturer of paper and board products.
We also close the loop by using production residues – such as sanding dust, offcuts and wood fibres – as quality-assured substitute fuel in our energy generation processes.
Through the ongoing monitoring of our emissions, compliance with our limit values and the operation of state-of-the-art plant, we guarantee transparent processes across all areas of our production.
To ensure our continuous development, we regularly take part in scientific collaborations and research projects, such as DATA – Digital Assistant for Drying Plants, funded by the FFG.
